I don't know if this is a problem with just my new macbook, but the speakers on this thing are awfully quiet. I've maxed the volume thru iTunes, System Preferences, and the volume buttons on the keyboard and its seriously hard to hear anything going on. Ill say OS X 10.2.8 is very slow on the 4400, you can watch the windows being drawn in real time as it builds up all the quartz elements LOL kinda cool actually seeing how its all rendered. Im planning on throwing a Radeon 9200 in here and seeing how that fairs, but im pretty sure everything is VERY CPU bound, as just moving the mouse curser. The Mac Mini is quiet because it is designed to be quiet. Unlike most PCs which get assembled from a collection of generic off-the-shelf parts, the Mac Mini has purpose designed parts, including the low RPM fan designed to move air, quietly.
Damn It's So Quiet.. Mac Os X
1. go to Music
2. click on one of your tracks
3. Select all (Apple+A together)
4. Select info (Apple+I together)
This will bring up the file info window for all files. Just above the bottom left of this window you will see a sliding bar called 'Volume Adjustment'
If you move the slider towards the +100% side and then click on ok this should change the volume on all files.
One word of warning though. if you do this, next you connect your iPod or iPhone to iTunes, it will want to replace the fines on your device with the louder files. So just be careful how loud you make them.
